Majestic

Majestic

The Brittany Shape was introduced in 1936 and differed quite a bit from most of the Dinnerware shapes and patterns debuting around that time.  It was slightly heavy, relatively conservative in shape and featured none of the "Art-Deco" Patterns that were so common around that time.   The Eggshell Cavalier shape introduced a few years later borrows heavily from this shape and Restaurant Ware still being manufactured today is modeled after this shape.

This particular pattern, W538 was made for Woolworth's, (hence the "W" in the Pattern number) and it was Woolworth's that named the pattern "Majestic".
