Craftsman

The Homer Laughlin CRAFTSMAN Line: With formal colors accented by a very rich 18 carat gold filigree, the Craftsman line debuted in 1933 and was sold in Montgomery Ward and other high end Department and catalog stores of the time. It was made in very limited production quantities and was sold only for a year or two starting in 1933.

Originally introduced as its own line appealing to the higher end of the mid-30's Dinnerware market - it featured formal patterns, and heavy use of the Gold Trim. After it's introduction, the Styling and Georgian lines of the Craftsman Shape became an instant hit. Although it was only produced in limited quantities - after seeing the popularity of the styling, Homer Laughlin decided to use the shape as the prototype for what later became the much more and wildly successful Eggshell Georgian Line.

While the Craftsman line shares the same Homer Laughlin "Shape" (lines and styling) of the individual pieces, the weight and feel of the two lines is quite different. Craftsman was made from normal weight clay material common prior to the mid-30's while the Eggshell Georgian line was made from the brand new lighter "high Tech" "Eggshell" material that Homer Laughlin developed and introduced later in 1934/35

Very Rare and hard to find in any condition, Homer Laughlin Craftsman is very sought after by Homer Laughlin Collectors today due to its rarity and importance to the development of the much more popular, (and widely available today) Georgian Eggshell Line.
